Your head hurts? How do you think ours feel, just been online and bought shares in the firm that make Asprin

Yes, you`ve got it, the start of the feed cut at DOC (assuming that you actually set one, otherwise the software will use it` own default)

Here is some more "pain" for you just in case you haven`t noticed why I used the values I did.

You wanted a DOC of 0.25" but didn`t want a zig zag ramp, just a little math will do it for you, if a longer shallower ramp is desired then remember that a straight plunge is at 90 Degrees to the plane so a 1.0" distance ramp from plunge point going to a 0.25 DOC, then as 0.25 is a quarter of 90 therefore a quarter of 90 degrees is a ramp angle of 22.5 degrees which will give a single ramp in without any zig zag as in the example

Hope that`s enough for you for today, keep taking the pills

    Regards
    Rob

actually it doesn't zigzag at all....you can just set your angle to whatever you want set your ramp length...that can even be something greater (say 2 inch etc) doesnt matter..it will just go 45 degree to the top of part...

the zigzag issue i was getting was because i was setting the angle to - , instead of the ramp length to -

so problem solved...and no math involved...(which doesn't hurt my head)

Great, glad you are up to speed with it now

The software is pretty good (Even the old V26) but it isn`t perfect, there has to be a fair bit of input from the user, known as "the learning curve"

are you able to get it to start on the narrow width on the same example having trouble starting in that area.
What you have shown is really good to know

    Thanks

Well, yes and no, the "Lace Angle" in that type of pocket is set and can`t be changed so what happens is the toolpath starts and runs at an angle which can mean it starts to ramp outside the pocket, this is not good, when I was playing around with the file "airbrush" provided that`s what I found so temporarily dumped that idea

However there is a small work around that I did but didn`t upload as it wasn`t what the OP wanted, anyway, what I had to do was set the plunge point level with or higher than the lower end of the side line of the pocket boundary and it does go in the correct direction, just means the tool ramps in and runs horizontally across the pocket to the end point of the side line and then runs normally from there (If any of it can be called normal)

I didn`t go into it any deeper but here is the file where I tried it, have a play and see what you can come up with, it is an odd little cunundrum

I always "Pocket Out" as that doesn`t have the cutter doing a long cut at the DOC cutting a slot, starting from the center and working out means the cutter has a very short cut at full envelope at full DOC, but as they say "each to their own"

    Enjoy

    Regards
    Rob

If you need to control the start point for a pocket you need to create a contour from your geometry, where you start the contour will control the start point of the pocket.

Obviously you must reselect the contour for your pocket.
