Default X2 cnc mill with original acme screws - does it really need ball screws?

I picked up an X2 mill someone had hacked up and added steppers to as a package with another much nicer desktop mill with servos and ball screws. Figured I would clean up the X2 and get it working to sell as I don't need them both. Is it reasonable to run these with the original threaded rods? I realize it will have a bunch of backlash but I doubt putting in ball screws will be something I would get my money out of. They put 2 pulleys at the top with a cable and counterweight to balance the weight of the head. If I was really doing it right I would do a belt conversion and ball screws but as I say I have a much nicer machine that needs minimal work and looks much more rigid. I would like to get something bigger eventually.

I would just clean it and sell it. Maybe simple repair. Any money you put into it is most likely going to be lost.

I have one and it ran ok on the stock screws, the Z axis dovetail failed first!

    Get rid of it.
I regret putting the money into mine.
Save your cash for something bigger.
