Rhino ST6 CNC Lathe Restoration

I recently bought a Rhino ST6 CNC Lathe from a Craigslist ad. The lathe is is OK shape but has a rusty cabinet. I did some research and it looks like these lathes were made in the 1990s for Schools.

This is a slantbed lathe. It has a maximum turning size of 2".

The original electronics used a DOS based PC. I intend to change all the electronics out for newer equipment. The Centroid Acorn and some Hybrid Steppers.

The Spindle motor is a Baldor 90VDC 1/2HP motor.

Anyone have any suggestions for how to remove the old paint and rust?
