At what voltage it looks like a 3Ph motor is it 220/240 if so a simple VFD Drive will get you going

    Its says its 110v 3 phase. I have a 110v 3 phase vfd coming...
Not sure on delta or wye configuration tho

Normally for low voltage it is connected Delta, this is not a very good motor being 110v don't expect it to have a very good performance if anyone else is buying this make sure it has a 220v/240v 3Hp motor

110V 3 phase is unusual. I'd guess that to run it from 110/120V, you would run it in delta. Wye would then be for 208V (much more common in 3-phase.)
Odd that there are fields on the motor nameplate for frequency range, etc. but no numbers. I'd guess that indicates it's meant for 60 Hz only. It's fan cooled I assume?

Yes, its 60 hz and there is a fan blade in the back of the motor. I have a 110v 1/2hp motor i can adapt if this one does not work well.

The 1/2Hp motor is not going to do a very good job on a 30 Taper spindle this normally would have a 3Hp motor on it I don't know why they sold it like this

You may be right. I am not planning to do a bunch of heavy hogging at all. Small bites in steel and aluminum..

    Well see, thanks sir!

My guess is the thin belt width (9/16") and gears are the limitations on motors horsepower sizing.

I will see if i can find some gears that will support a wider belt and then think about upgrading the motor.

Yes. My vfd came in yesterday, i just got it wired and programmed up the vfd.

It works good. I took a few thou off my old vise jaw to clean it up . The lengh of cut was 1" on a 1/2" endmill in jog mode. No issues..

The finish looks good. This seems to work sweet so far!

The only issue i had with the spindle is when i flipped the motor to the topside, the belt was misaligned and had to shim the spindle gear up a bit. Easy fix.

I also had to take an die grinder and open up the casting around the bolt holes. Also pretty easy.

Here are the specs for the VFD that worked on this motor in delta.

    Name:Frequency Converter
    912682
    Specifications:
    Model:YL620-A
    Power:1.5KW
    Input:AC 1PH 110V 50Hz-60Hz
    Output:AC 3PH 0V-110V 14A 2.8KVA
    Temperature: -40°C~+70°C
    Modulation: Space Voltage Vector Modulation
    Speed range: 1:10
Cooling method: air-cooled, with fan control
    Color:Black
    Size:170mm*160mm*125mm

I flat topped a stainless steel slide like butter. I think it has plenty of power for my needs.

I have no complaints about the finish either. Amazing for ebay parts and scrap steel!

I see and hear no chatter.

Thanks for all the help in here.

After rebuilding my z axis plate, i now have room for both spindles.

2" facemill with 4 flutes testing on aluminum. My max cut is about .015" before spindle runs out of muscle.

    Pretty happy with the finish.

Very good for a cutter like that and an inexpensive spindle like you have

Thanks! Yes it was cheap. The casting holes needed reworked, the belt gears were not aligned well and needed reworked, and its a an odd 110v/ 3phase motor but im really happy with performance even being underpowered.

Also very impressed with my axis motors that were reccomended here. Very fast and strong.
