How do you control spindle speed?

As the title, what wiring, parts etc are required for a brushless variable speed mill?

There are three popular ways to control spindle speed.

- Through RS-485. You need a VFD/BLDC drive with RS-485 interface and an RS-485 port on your computer (typically a USB adapter).

- Through 1..10V. Most VFDs and BLDC drives have this input. You need either a breakout board with 1..10V output, or a PWM output and a converter.

- Through PWM. Some (but not all) BLDC drives have that option. You need one spare digital output on the breakout board for PWM.
