Default Replacement R8 spindle for X2

I see Little Machine Shop has replacement spindle but the back order date has changed to October.
I am hoping that the change in back order date is not a repeating thing?

Are there other options for this item?

I assume you're on about the old type with the 350w cylindrical motor?
Don't really know about fitment on these but:
The only other ones I've come across is this for the old X2
    https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catal.../X2-79-Spindle
    This for the newer SX2
    https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catal...SX2-84-Spindle

I got lucky with mine. My X2 clone (Osaki). It got damaged on the MT3, couldn't order a replacement. So looked at the Sealey version and ordered theirs and when it came turned out to be R8. I already have a belt drive fitted with the gears removed and it went straight in. Much better taper. It does look exactly the same as the one in the top link. It does require a new bottom bearing too as the spindle is wider (size35x62x14mm)

If you have no belt drive and are using the gears there's no chance it'll fit unless you can get the complete conversion set:

Just spotted they do the belt conversion pulleys separate, handy to know for me

Can't use the spindle from a SX2 on the X2 as it only has a top shaft size of 28mm.
I did notice the other week though that Amadeal do a belt conversion for a machine of theirs which is 28mm bore but the motor one is 10mm not 9mm.
I would say the belt conversion from Amadeal, a SX2 (28mm top) spindle and the small size motor pulley from LMS would all fit together too but all that will come at cost.

If you have the belt drive I'd take a punt on the arc one
    https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catal.../X2-79-Spindle
and order the bottom bearing along with it.

If you have the gears still in they'll need taking out.

    Thanks for the super info.
I don't know if mine iis an X2 or SX2, how can I tell? the motor doesn't havve any markings, it is black and cylindrical. The column is the pivoting type.
The front says XJ9510.X2 if that helps.

Looks like the X2 if this is the one:
Precise Mini Milling and Drilling Machine - XJ-9510-1 - Penn Tool Co., Inc
The SX2 has a square BLDC motor.

Is yours R8 already as standard then? Is yours belt converted or stock geared?

The best thing to do imo is to
1: ask Penn if they carry a spare R8 spindle first.
2: take the nut off the top of your spindle, take off the steel collar, measure the diameter of that top smooth part and see if it's 28 or 30mm version. Then put it back together.

Looking at the arc ones the X2-79-Spindle is 30mm at the top
The SX2-84-Spindle is 28mm at the top
You can see the subtle difference where the smaller size has an extra step in machined at the top.

I've seen similar model numbers that have 28mm updated ones fitted so could do with checking that first.

Mine is currently MT3, so I want something more practical. Along with this change I'd like to upgrade the bearings and use a belt drive.
I am also looking into the getting a better motor/drive, so your posts in other threads are helpful too.

The tips for verifying the diameter near the nut is great, thanks.
