I actually took it apart and adjusted all the dials and got it normal again.

Have you looked at other motor options like getting away from that DC brushed motor and into a suitable AC option?

Asynchronous Servo Spindle Motors that are specifically suited for VMC's and milling machines will offer you the best performance for your dollar and they are available in small packages.

Motor Specs: (real) Asynchronous Servo Spindle Motor
    • 1.12KW (1.5HP) Constant Velocity / 1.5KW (2HP) Constant Torque.
    • RPM: 12,000.
    • Duty: S1@8,000RPM, S6@12,000RPM.
    • Cooling: External 220VAC Electric Fan.
    • Shaft DIA: 22mm with 6mm keyway (standard).
    • Encoder: Optical 2500PPR
    • Weight: 18lbs
    • Supports Rigid Taping.
    • Supports Orientation

I've been running mine with a VFD sample I was trying to produce that didn't fund on KS, it has 4 programmable orient positions and I've had no issues doing anything with this motor, RPMs from 100 to 12,000 are stable due to closed-loop tracking, in servo mode positioning is accurate within 3ppr and in orient it's also less than 3ppr (3ppr is the default position error margin, can be changed) of the target position.

At $1K for the combo it's the best bang for the buck, all things considered.

Forget Yaskawa VFD's if your on a budget, even a new Delta VFD-VE (3PH input, single phase never produced) with PG card that will run on single phase 220V (derated) with sufficient power (5.5KW needed for 1.5KW-2.2KW motor) will run you over $800.00 plus shipping, used is less and sometimes old-stock can be found in small quantities but sourcing the motor is where you run into difficulties as it's not likely you have a local source for a special application motor and it's not something you see advertised in your local hardware store.

Before you get any ideas of messaging me here to inquire about the motor and VFD combo, if you do message me here, don't expect a reply, I don't frequent here often and it may be 3-4 months before I return again and the message will have evaporated before this time.

    .
seems a bit overkill for a mill/drill that only costs $600

I was just taking a stroll down memory lane. I can't find the value of the replacement power resistor that we had to order for this board.

I just ordered another board for another project with a 100VDC motor probably not to different from the X2 motor.

    @ nateman_doo

    Which board?

If it's the KBLC-19PM (Mod) and you're looking for 1.5 HP then use this one.

I can't seem to upload the image??

I was editing my last post when you replied.

    #9850 is for the 1.5 HP @ 120VAC (or 3 hp @ 240VAC)

Stock, I get about 65V out of the board with the factory resistor. i wonder if I replace the resistor if that will get me closer to 90V (the desired voltage)

Its a 0.25W resistor. I don't even remember how to look up the replacement resistor, but either way I ordered the one you linked. $5.00 and free shipping.

Here is the video of it stock:

Could I upgrade my board from stock to a KBLC board or what ever would work for me in my situation stock motor?
I haven't got it converted to CNC yet.

If so what board would be the best for me. I'm not sure if I'm going to upgrade the motor right away but going to eventually.

    thank you

That there $1000 AC brushless unit there looks pretty fancy and spendy - especially if on an X2 or similar sized mill Geez. Hoss somehow managed to turn a Nordic motor into a servo and control with Mach3 - for tapping/threading - additionally appears there is way to switch the treadmill [ nordic ] from a SERVO 3,200 RPMs max ... to also then be controlled by a KBMM-125 for 4000 to 6000+ RPMs - not sure how he did/is doing it but .. worth looking into especially if its < $250 and you dont need 12k RPMS

Calibrating the Nordic as a servo with Mach 3 - he mentions the KBMM 125 and switching it to a servo @ 3:40 seconds into the vid

Tapping with the Nordic as a Servo

I fancy getting one of these:

Only thing is I'm not that clued up with is some of the wiring. The only things I can't work out are the connections on the 25 pin input connection..This is the manual with the diagram for speed/torque mode on page 26:
    https://www.fasttobuy.com//download/...anual_V3.0.pdf

I'd love to get my head round it so I can hook it up to my board:

All you'd need is to know the pins on the servo driver for on/off, 0v-10v signal +/- and an E-stop line for if the spindle jams.
Good option for a replacement motor system imo.

Something like this would probably go well with the X2 as well:

I've decided I'm saving up for another mill (Chinese jobbie) to convert instead of the motor upgrade.
My X2 has come along well so far. Belt unit, R8 spindle upgrade, solid column squeezed 155mm travel on the Y axis, 420oz/in steppers, homemade 350w 20Litre coolant system (overkill and powerful!!!)
Gradually pushing up and gone up to 800mm/min with decent accuracy so far with a 6mm cutter but you can here the motor struggle a bit at times.

The new mill I'm looking at is bigger than the Grizzly G0704.
    There's the Amadeal AMA30LV - R8 coming soon?
    The Warco WM18
Only downside is these are gear driven
Then there's the TOOLCO WM32B which is belted.
All R8 out of stock atm and I'm impatient

All 3 say they have a good 220mm travel on the Y axis which appeals to me.Much bigger than a X3 for a close price tag around £1450.
I got slightly more Y travel than the X3 on my X2!
