    Hoss,

What speed control are you using in that test video. I am considering using a treadmill motor and I am looking or a controller that can interface to mach3.
Is it the stock controler with your g0704?

    This video?
    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daxbxahGGd4&feature=channel_video_title"]‪G0704 C6 Spindle Control.wmv‬‏ - YouTube[/nomedia]

It's a C6 board from CNC4PC controlling the stock mill spindle controller.
    CNC4PC
The stock board is very similar to a KBIC controller which is the schematic used to hook it up.
    http://cnc4pc.com/Tech_Docs/KBIC.pdf
Same goes for the KBMM I'm using now with the 1100 Watt motor.
I have it written up here.

    Hoss,

I actually already own a gecko g540 wich outputs voltage the same way as the cnc4pc C6 board does. So it seems that the kbmm board would work best.

Thanks so much for the help!!

Ok one last question. How long is that nordik track treadmill motor? Im winning one on ebay and it may be a little long for my machine!

    Hoss,

Thanks again, I just measured and my enclosure is to low for that motor. Do you think the back plastic part could be removed? I imagine it could but I would worry about it without the fan.

The last section on the right is the fan, I wouldn't want to run one without a fan for very long.
Without it, it would be 1.265 shorter, the rest is a shell on the actual motor.

Hey Hoss, is this one POKeys based or another gutted controller?

Another gutted Philips USB PC game controller, $5 on Ebay.
Gives 16 button capability with 4 axis joysticks.
Keygrabber to assign the buttons works great as usual.

Very cool control panel!! I just started using keygrabber last night works great.

I was watching some of your videos on youtube and I was wondering what kind of air cylinder are you using on your power drawbar? I am toying with the idea of re doing my current spindle and would love a auto drawbar like that.

    Thanks,
    Eric

It's a 3 stage air cylinder that I made myself.
It will put out about 2100 lbs of force at 100 psi.
Check Ebay for multi-stage Fabco air cylinders, you may be able to snag one for less than $50.
This page will tell you what the part #'s mean.
    Catalogue - Master Catalog - FABCO-AIR - (Version JPG) - page 109
On a similar note, I just snagged a steal on a Fabco Air Booster on Ebay that
could give me nearly 6000 lbs of force from my air cylinder, if I was crazy enough to try.
    3000 will do.

Hoss, do you have a picture of one. My searches came up nil, mainly volume boosters. The pressure intensifiers didn't yeild too much either.

This is the one I got, it's just missing the air valve which I already have.
    FABCO-AIR AIR HYDRAULIC BOOSTER #B5003, 500PSI | eBay
The construction is similar to my air cylinder but much bigger and ported differently.
I was going to make a bootstrap compressor but not now.

Hoss, does your estop circuit also dump air pressure?

If I had a local scuba shop that could refill tanks, I would have used one with a regulator
to supply the air cylinder with a couple hundred psi.
A single 3.5 -4 inch air cylinder would do the trick then.
Not much scuba interest here in the mountain state though.

Sounds like a good idea to add to the console setup, I'll make a note of it, thanks.

Here you go, after a little googling, a scuba tank for powering air tools.
    SCUBA Air Tools
If my math is correct, in thory, I could get almost 10,000 cycles from the scuba tank.
    probably not, seems high.
    Hoss

On further review, maybe about 3500 strokes at 200 psi, still that could last a year ish per fill.

If you went with an Al tank you'd get slightly less that 80Cuft, if you went with steel you can get 120Cuft relatively commonly and many shops will "overfill" a steel tank.
In practice you you'd only run them down to ~500psi before refilling, scuba stores will sometimes insist on a vis if the tank is drained.

That's a good idea.. I have 2 steel tanks (2200psi rating) I could use.. though I think they need to be inspected and have a hydro test on them.. I have a dive shop right down the road. I hate having to listen to my Air compressor.. It's so DAMN loud. How much stroke is needed on the air cylinder? What about a solid or hydraulic vs pneumatics?

I mentioned using air/hydraulic a long time ago, the hydraulic hose and cylinder are sitting in a box.
I may try them with the air booster since it can use hydraulics too.
    Trying this first.
