Do you want like this type vice ?
So i'm after a new vice for my mill and would like a decent quality one.
Here in Aus choices are limited.
I have a budget of up to $1500 and it looks like im stuck with either a vertex or safeway vice, both tiawanese made.
Anyone have any thoughts on these brands?
im looking at a 6inch vice ( 130-150mm )
Ive looked into european brands and orange but these are starting at $2500 upwards.
Can't find any decent used ones around.
And finally KURT. I would love a Kurt and can afford one of the scratch and dent dx6 vises.
Only problem, because i'm a individual and not a company they won't ship one to me. Why, i have no idea.
So anyone work for a company that would like to order some kurts so i could jump in and get one?
Anyway what are you all using and where did you get them?
PS, i already have a cheap ebay vice for my diy router and its crap so won't even consider a chinese vice.
Cheers.

I use a GROZ vise.
If I remember correctly, the 4" one I have cost me about $450 many years ago, I think the price is more now.
Groz Tools - Angular Machine Vices - Super Precision
The only issue I've had with mine is that I stripped one of the bolts on it...years ago...but it wasn't a huge deal, I just retapped it to a larger size, works perfect.
It seems to me to be about the same as the Kurt vises I've used at work. There's no rotation of the stock when it's sitting on the parallels and you clamp down on it.

Obviously you'd want to go with a "Super Precision" model.
Hare & Forbes sell a Safeway hydraulic vice within your price range. Two sizes available I think.
Used that one in a machine shop on the manual lathe for quite a lot of work, reasonably accurate. When I'm ready to spend over $1k on a vice, I'll probably buy that model.
Have you tried EBay?

Thanks for replies.
I'm leaning towards a safeway or vertex.
Although i did get a response from an a company who sells Eron vices, mae in Japan.
They have a kurt style which is in my budget, just.
So i might go this option.
I have a little 127 vertex K type it's an accurate vice smooth and reliable ,too small I guess for what you want .Don't mistake the Taiwanese for Chinese accuracy they are superior ,I also have a Vertex dividing head also very nice .
