    Default mini lathe upgrades

    Hi guys,

Im new to the forum and thought I would share my mini lathe project and hopefully get some help also, I killed something on it so I'm in the process of putting a 1.1kw 3phase motor with a 1.5kw vsd. I've built a little frame to mount the lathe on with motor base at the rear and made up some 6pk pulleys to drive it. I've still got a few bits to finish weld on motor base and work out what belt I need and wiring the vsd and motor in, I'm not sure about the vsd programming I've watched a heap of vids and read manuals and some have have a setting for max and min amps of the motor, but this one in the manual there isn't any setting for that. The motor is around 3.8amps but the vsd does 10max, is it just a matter of the motor will only pull what it needs? or if I load it up to much it will pull more?

I stole these pics but mine is the same.

I attached some pics of the build so far and also a little bollaero 18 motor I'm making

    cheers
    Josh

What are you going to be using this lathe for? Is this part of a CNC project? Or you are just trying to upgrade the spindle? If it is part of a CNC project, you may want to consider upgrading the spindle to a servo. Check what this guy did:
Depending on what you are going to be using the machine for, I think Mach4+PoKeys+M16 or ACORN may be the best options right now as far as ease of setup, features and total cost of the project.
