    Default Newbie to metalworking

    Hi folk,
Total newbie here - always have wanted to get into machining of metal... and have just bit the bullet and purchased a Sieg SC-3 400 mini lathe (yet to be assembled).

I don't know if this is the forum where I belong - as I note reference is made more of CNC machines than actual lathworking ... if I am in the wrong place, can someone kindly suggest where I should be posting.

    frats,
    Rosco

    Hi Rosco,
I am not sure are any spots for your machine here if you are not venturing into the world of CNC. ( I may be wrong...)
I would suggest Googling your lathe and forum and see what pops up. Find a forum that mentions your lathe lots and go from there.
    Welcome to the metalworking world.

Well that is a pretty good lathe I find it pretty accurate to a point then I re did the slides with brass Inserts smoother cross and top slide the chuck on mine was a pain material ran true took a cut then removed and reinserted in the chuck it would run out a lot .So I could not bear it anymore and purchased a Sanou chuck very accurate one of the best $90 well spent .So I suppose I should explain a little more I needed a lathe that had forward and reverse on it as well as variable speed I do a lot of tapping so that part works fantastic .I have been machining for a long time and nearly all the lathes have right hand for longitudinal travel and left for cross slide ,but you get used to it also I have a larger lathe best left for bigger jobs .I did have a Myford for years boy I made some stuff on that little thing so all in all just have fun and enjoy it's nice to know it sitting there ready to use for those little odd jobs.
