    Hi,
I have tried most things suggested. There seems to be more things going wrong than I am fixing. I am starting to look at Computer and software. It looks as though it is going to take a long time to get to the bottom of all the problems.
    Regards
    Terry

You need more data, not a bundle of guesses. You could try the following:

    1) Put an analog current meter in the supply line to the Z axis driver. See how much current (power) you are drawing in both up and down directions. Looks for peaks due to acceleration as well as steady state.

    2) Reduce the acceleration value in Motor Tuning - to 1/2 say, and repeat 1) above.

    3) Jerry-rig some pulleys above the Z axis and hang a few bricks as a counterweight to the weight of the spindle. Then repeat 1).

Personally I doubt it is in the computer. It is most likely to be in the settings/driver/motor chain.

    Cheers
    Roger

Thanks very much for that Roger. I will try everything you have suggested. I have been soooooooooooooooooo frustrated I have walked away from it for a while to gather my thoughts. But I will certainly try your suggestions.

    Regards
    Terry

Trust me - we all know that frustration! We have all been there.
But these things ARE soluble. Then you have a running machine (and usually a LOT more knowledge too).

    Cheers
    Roger

    Hi Guys,
Thank You for all of your suggestions re my Axis problem.
This last week I went back with as much determination that I could muster to solve my Axis problem. I first tried and re tried everyone's kind suggestions. None worked unfortunately. After many hours of trials and rethinking of what was happening and testing and using the the situation of trial and error and the process of of elimination I learnt a lot more about my CNC as "Serob" sugessed I would..
Yesterday I found the problem. It was the step motor driver. At last!. When I think of it now, it should have been one of the first things I should have tested. Everything is fine in hindsight. It is sooooooo simple to test. I was going down the path of extraneous electricity that was causing interference to the messages that the step motor was receiving.
Once again, thank you to everyone for your help.
    Regards
    Terry.
