I am getting ready to start my build and have been lurking here reading all the builds on here, very inspirational and innovative ideas I must say. I have been looking through the mirad of Google searches for v-rail and gear racks. Who has the best pricing on these items? Also where is best place to buy e-chain?

Here is some details of what I am building:
1. 5 x 6 table (full 5 x 5 cutting area with room for gantry parking). 2 x 6 x 3/16 tube
2. All aluminum gantry, 1/2" side plates, 4" H beam turned on its side.
3. Hypertherm 1000
4. I will be using Tom's 4 axis stepper pack with THC.
5. Rack & pionion x & y
6. Z (haven't figured that out yet) leaning to ball screw, maybe rack & pinion. thoughts anyone?
7. 4" of water in the table.

I also have some questions about v-rail and gear rack sizing. Should I use T2 or T3 v-rail? I am thinking on gear rack 20 pitch x 20 pressure angle, am I thinking correctly?

Thanks in advance everyone. I am looking forward to start building and posting my progress.

For V-Rail I would run the T2 size for your table. Any bigger is kind of a waste. The best pricing I have found is Rick from Superior Bearing. Give him a call and he should be able to set you up. He is the guy that everyone who builds Mechmates calls.

As far as the rack that is the same size that I have planned for my next build.
Number 20011 They have a $50 min order, but the amount that you need should reach that.

The pinion I found at MSC Direct for that rack. PT# 02274207

The e-chain I would check Ebay for the best deal. Search under Igus.

A lot of builders of both Joe's CNC and Arhen's CNCRouterParts Rack and Pinion system have been using Moore Gear for their rack. Judging from the response I've seen thus far, everyone has been very happy with it.

The above listed sources are all good. I used www.mcmaster.com for my rack & pinion merely because I could order online 24/7. I also used mcmaster for lots of other items. Things like 100 count boxes of 4-40, 5-40, 3mm, 4mm, etc socket head cap screws, Limit switches housed inside a dust resistant enclosure. Yada Yada yada.
