View Full Version : Quick change 30 tooling - any good?

I recently got a mill with a quick change 30 taper (Erickson) spindle. My question is the manual locking collar robust enough to hold tools accurately? Do anybody have any experiece with this type of tooling? The spindle is in a 7 hp mill.

Thanks. Merry Christmas.

Have used a Bridgeport Interact4 that used a system that located and clamped the arbors on the flange with a clamping nut/sleeve at the spindle nose. No drawbar involved. Maybe this is similar to what you are refering?

As I recall the only issue we had is that the clamping lugs sometimes fail to engage and tools can plop out when it starts up (with experience you can 'feel' the difference when you tighten it up - it shouldn't feel like a 'hard-stop', it should be a 'gradual' tightening). Just be aware of this when tightening tools and all should be well.

I am wrong again. It's a quick change 40 taper, not a 30.
