I currently use standard uncoated 4 flute 1/4" diameter carbide ballmills, about 10 a month.

I want to try a TIalN coated ballmill to compare possible feeds/speeds. I looked though both of my local suppliers catalogs and found ONE tool that will suit my needs, it's a IMCO Pow-r-feed endmill, $33 each! (mistakes will be expensive)

Problem is I pay $7.50 for an uncoated USA Carbide ballmill.

Before I spend too much money because my local supply doesn't have anything else, can someone tell me where to get TIalN coated ballmills for a decent price?

My specific need is 1/4" 4 flute TIalN coated carbide ballmill, 3/4" flute lenght, probably 1/4" shank, 3/8" is fine, straight shank is fine, no need for a weldon.

And I need a good supplier, if they save enough time, I'll need 10 a month, so reputable dealers please, no fleabay or overstock sites please.

Thanks,
MC

TA coated cutters ROCK
They don't mention it in the feed charts but it is recommended to add 15% to the SFM with TA coating
One of my favourites is UltraTool.
They are US and the site is ultra-tool.com.

1/4" TA BallMill should be around $20 (guessing on exchange and what your OEM discount might be).
Find your local supplier through the site (I guess).

Garr makes good reasonably priced TiALN endmills. Local suppliers stock most of their catalog and any special orders only take a day or two to get.

We have used them for smaller 1/32 to 1/4 end and ball mills. Never had any problems with them. We also ended using a lot of stubs because we were not using the side cuts.

I've only ever purchased their indexable tools but I was VERY happy with what I received (2.5" face mill). Frank (owner) was a pleasure to deal with.
