HI
I am building a cnc milling machine. Which drill rod would be best to use with sintered bronze bearings? ENCO has air hardening, water hardening, and oil hardening in the latest sale catalog with free shipping. They also have acme screws and nuts.Any advice will be greatly welcome.
Thanks
Dave

Im a blasesmith and knife maker so I do a lot of heat treating.Your steel choices are going to based on how you want to heat treat. With the air hardening you need a means to bring it up to around 1850ish and hold it there for the manufactures specified time and then let air cool. For the oil hardening, you need to bring it up to non-magnetic and quench in oil.I wouldnt use the water hardening. If I was to do it I would use the air hardening as it will be the least corroding of the choices. You'll also need to temper it after its hardened.
