Here is a Native American Indian and a Bald Eagle cut in redwood with a 1/8 spiral saw bit in ONE pass!
It measure 10"x7" and took 3 hours to cut without a roughing pass...

Outstanding. How do you keep your bit from breaking at the start? I'm guessing you have a very small stepover, but the plunge cuts would give me pause. Did you slow your feed rate down during the first plunge and first long cut?

Thanks Dave,
my speed is a slow but constant 25" per minute in all three directions If you look closely at the lower right hand corner you will see some scorching,,,so a slower start would help with that! The step over is 16%, which give 200 passes per inch. It is cut at a 45% angle so the 1st passes are very, VERY short. But at 1.25" deep in the lower right corner had it better be!

Is this method faster than first using a roughing cut? From the photos the finish looks very good. Thanks for sharing actual "pushing the envelope" type work.
