View Full Version : Very eager Chicago CNC/CAM student looking for mentor

I am a 33 year old guy currently studying CNC programming, setup, operation and Mastercam. After 15 years of working in a gray area industry (hospitality), this year I decided to move my career to a black and white trade, where I can better apply my work ethics. The problem is that at school, especially with programming and operation, we only get to practice on the actual machines for about two hours every week, and by the time we are back, it's hard to get started again.

I have so far tried to get an internship trough school, but nothing has come up yet. I would like to find an opportunity in a shop where I could practice a little more, or even just observe how a real operation works. I am very driven to get started and to keep learning. I will enroll in advanced programming and advanced Mastercam for the fall semester.

A bit about me:
-15 years of work experience, 10 of them as supervisor/manager
-Have an analytical and logical thought process
-Self learner and DIYer
-Not afraid of hard work or overtime
-No drugs, no smoke, no alcoholism
-Willing to start at a low wage/internship position.
-Extremely passionate about aerospace manufacturing.

Thank you for reading,

Try a company Bley, LLC in Elk Grove. Located at 700 Chase Ave. They have an apprenticeship program.
