Hi Soren60,
I have tried to cut spiral bevels on my milling center a couple of times. I believe I am on the right track.
The only problem remaining is the second cut on one of the blanks that will put the taper to the teeth.
I copied the Gleason single tooth ( or space) generator operation. Using a live 4th axis and a rotary head that can tip upwards to the root angle like a cannon and a home made face mill I wrote the code for the blank to turn as the cutter head swings through the generating roll. but on one of the mating gears I have for lack of data not cut the taper which can be done easily by shifting the center of roll and
rolling through again. ..... And I thought I was the only looney out there trying this! Hey how about skew bevels can they be cut on a gleason straight bevel gererator?
