Are all rpc's created equal?

What is the main difference between a Phase-A-matic RPC:

and this unit:

Does each unit have it's own advantages/disadvantages?

I am looking at powering a 2001 Johnford SV-40 with a 15hp spindle. It isn't something I want to fool around with, but the $$$ they want for a phase-a-matic is more than I was budgeting for....

Alot of people swear by the Phase-A-Matic, AFAIK one of the main differences is that the motor is suposedly made for RPC use.
I built mine and so far has worked OK.
I guess it is one of those 'You pays your money and takes your choice'.
Usually the spindle is less critical if the control and servo's run off of single phase in the machine, they can be fed from the main feed pair, then it is usually less of a possible problem.
If the servo's are three phase fed, then this can create issues.
