View Full Version : Acrylic questions

I am very new to the cnc world and want to build a smaller machine to cut acrylic parts for aquariums. I normally do all my cutting with a regular router. Does anyone have any suggestions on what size motors I should use. Also, will a trim router be enough or should I go with a regular router? Most of the material I use is .25-.50 material. Thanks in advance.

I'd go with a variable speed 2HP router.

As for how big of steppers, it depends on a lot of things. How big is the machine, how fast do you want to cut, how heavy will it be, what type of linear bearings, what type of screws.....

Gerry, thats all kinda up in the air. I think I want the cutting area to be around 24X36. Speed doesnt matter to much. Any recomendations on bearings, screws etc?

Start reading through the project logs here to get an idea of what people are using on similar size machines.
