she still needs some tweeking i'm running the fet3 with vexta 118 oz motors simple 1/2 -13 ready rod lead screw i get a resolution of .0001 at full step .9 deg. but only 8 in/min , once i go to a belt drive , i ll go for a resolution of .001 at 80 in/ min good enough for wood cutting , did my first cuts on the weekend to make sure she works and no problems , gantry is coated in fibre glass resin the rest of the systems still needs a coat to weather proof it good learning curve for the next one i build but i ve still got my work to finish this one up

Congrats on the success

Decreasing resolution by a factor of 10 will not necessarily increase speed by a factor of 10. The FET is not known for being able to spin motors very fast. What voltage are you running at?

I've seen a lot of guys getting similar performance switch to Xylotex or Hobbycnc drives @ 24V and get 30ipm+ with 1/2-10 acme and 100 oz motors.

ya i agree the fet doesn t spin the motors fast 120rpm at this point but i also have to correct myself on the feed that was a different idea ive been toying with , with the motors turning at 120rpm with a raio of 8.5 to one with gearheads i had started on running a belt drive with 1.082 dia pullies gives me 14.11pm =47 in/min with added torque the motors are 5.4v run at 12v next is 24v resistors are on their way
