Hi all,
I'm in the soap mould making business. I recently have had to out source some very detailed logo's.

Does anyone have a clue as to how this part could have possibly been engraved. The material is 940 bronze alloy. The letters stand about .025" high. My lack of experience is killing me with figuring out how this part is made. I don't have a high enough spindle speed to turn a small enough end mill fast enough to do the engraving with.

I've been checking into laser engraving but have not been able to find a company that can do this. This same amount of art work must also be place on a curved surface, similar to the shape of a saddle.

This piece is placed on a flat surface.

This dwg. is the only thing I was given to go by.

I was told by the guy who built this part it was not done by a mechanical action. He said he was using a "photo engraver". Does anyone have an idea of what he might be talking about?

The design is chemically etched similar to how they make printed circuit boards. Photochemical machining - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photochemical_machining)

Google " photo-chemical milling"

Thanks, I've looked into that as well but how accurate is photo etching? I need to be able to accurately engrave .030" deep + or - .001".

Not sure on this but, possibly machined as a female engrave into an electrode and then with a ram EDM, burned.

Just a guess! I have never machined with that kind of detail.
