Hi guys, I'm starting a production run of custom fishing reels and would like to ask what the proper tool shape and method for using it is. I usually only make one at a time but am going to do several now at once.

I'm hogging out a 4" dia x .875" pocket in 5" dia. 6061 aluminum. I've currently been using a .5" HSS tool, ground with standard rack angles but it's very slow going on my lathe at about .060" each pass.

Attached is a picture of my lathe and a similar part to what I will be turning so you get the idea of the pocket.

Thanks for your help in advance.
