HI everyone, I just got thru a job machining a mold for a customer and I got taken to the cleaners for the cost of the job, was underbid mostly from the start, what is the average feed for cast iron, I machined the geometry and it took me over 40 hours to get the one side near complete then there was the finish ops, I need some advice

your building a mold out of cast iron?ive never heard that before,let us know what material
if its not cast iron,also how big is the plates?

the plates are 15 long 8 wide and 8 tall, the material was supplied, was told it was cast iron, these are for an aluminum foundry

aluminum foundrys usually need hard material to be used in mould (cavity) plates due to sudden high temperature differences.So it could have been hardened or prehardened steel.
