Call me wild and crazy. I have some monster size IGBT salvaged from a CNC mill. If I purchase a small VFD can I use that to drive the large IGBT's?
Here's the plan: Cook up a sizable DC source with rectifiers. Connect the IGBTs to that DC source. Use the small VFD outputs to drive the larger IGBTs.
Since the larger IGBTs would have their own power source it should put no strain on the small VFD.
So whatta think?

i dont think that would work since the vfd needs feed back from the motor windings. at least that is my understanding of vfds.

The vfd out put is AC. The IGBT gates need a 10-20 VDC pulse.
