    Default 3d Scanning Service

I am looking for someone that can do affordable 3d scanning that can be converted to files that a machine shop would be able to use. I have attached a picture of a similar object I need reverse engineered. The dimensions are approx 8.7 x 2.3 x 5.8 inches.

You don't need that part 3D scanned, but rather someone with a digital caliper and a drafting program. Because of the internal features, that part would not lend itself to 3D scanning. I assume the the piece you want to reverse engineer is a bit larger than the part in the picture. That one looks more like 2 inch outside diameter assuming that's a standard shop air hose in the background.

I can do it, or just about any local machine shop could do it also. Wouldn't think it would take more than an hour or so to create a shop ready drawing. Having the mating part to the internal thread would be helpful to get a proper thread fit. It's possible to derive the thread pitch and fit from the internal thread, but easier to have the mating part.

Those folks might tell you they fed it into a 3D scanner, but it's really just a big box with a little guy inside who uses a caliper...

Did you ever find someone to scan that part for you? LMK, I have a scanner.
