The Arcsin board is a new design by buildyouridea.com. It uses 18245 driver chips by National Semiconductor. These chips are rated at 3 amps continuous and 6 amps peak and it uses 2 18245 chips per axis. I consider it pretty hefty and almost in the Gecko class. Because the board incorporated configureable idle current settings, you can drive your steppers to the limit with this board. The board also has features for directly adding a joystick as well as a forth axis add on. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the higher voltage and current capabilities of this board really made my 276 inch ounce steppers from automationdirect.com sing. I immediately ordered 3 more of these motors to use with the Arcsin board on my 8x14 lathemaster cnc project. The board also has the capability for an independant 5 volt source for powering the optoisolation chips. The documentation is superb. Reading it is like taking a class in stepper drivers. The main thing is that you can use economical bipolar stepper motors in the nema 23 class as well as the bipolar steppers in the nema 34 class. If you use bipolar steppers in the 200 to 400 inch ounce range, I don't think you can find a more economical 3 axis bipolar board considering all of the features it has. Take a look at the manual for it on the buildyouridea.com web site. There are other features which I didn't take the time here to mention.

I posted the initial description of this product here. I was surprised that it was not listed I rate it a ten for its bipolar capabilities and price. Read the manual on the buildyouridea.com web site and you will see what I mean. It gets you into part of the gecko territory for a reasonable price.
