Owner sold me a "USED" machine.... He does not make precision machines, his shop is operated by HillBillies.

I bought this lathe on the first of january 2010 from harbor freight. I had a 25% off discount, which explains the low cost. Shipping was free to the store and I got the lathe less than 10 days later.
I had a little taig lathe before that and the difference is quite striking! This one is much sturdier and powerful (The taig is a great little lathe, especially to get into metal working). I don't think it is possible to make the machine vibrate and the finish is amazing, even on steel with deep cut. The one possible complain would be the absence of variable speed. On the other hand it allows for more torque, which is in practice more important. It is not difficult to change the belt speed either.
I am pretty strong but could not move it on my bench alone. I did it with only one friend though but I would recommend three guys rather, we have only one back! I was a little worried that I would get a different lathe since the one in the hf catalogue looks slightly different. I did not get the one on the picture but rather a copy of the lathemaster. It has metal handles, dual prismatic rail and hardened ways.
In brief, I recommend it highly, amazing quality for the price.
PS: and it came with all the accessories on the pictures except the 4 jaws chuck, faceplate and the back splash.

Please read about my bad experience and keep shopping if you are looking for a machine!
I purchased a 24" X 36" PCNC Automation router from Bill Johnson in Sept 2009. After picking it up from the "garage" headquarters in Vevay, IN in Oct 2009, I had one problem after another with it. Turns out the side plates that hold up the gantry were drilled about 3/16" off from one another. The bed tapered by that amount after surfacing. All drive pulleys were bored .017" oversize which caused "chatter marks" on all work pieces. There were also missing hardware, stripped fasteners, loose wires, etc. Bill admitted I got a lemon machine and said I could return it for repair, replacement, or full credit. After seeing that the replacement machine was in worse shape than mine, I elected for a refund. That was Nov 10th, 2009. Since then his phone has been disconnected, his girlfriend will no longer pick up when she sees that I am calling, and not one email has been responded to. As of today, I am out $3000.00. I certainly wish I had never seen his ad on this site and on the Vectric site.

Interesting product, but I cannot get any response from the company, I have sent multiple E-mails and received no response. The questions I have asked are price, delivery costs, and support?

This is a great lathe, paying extra to Lathemaster was worth it to me to get the back splash, drip pan, steadies, chucks, faceplate and service of Lathemaster. After suffering through a 7x14 this lathe is a winner capable of doing some real work.

I find BobCAD to be the all around solution. It offers many feature in 2D and 3D. I've used the software for many years now starting with V15. BobCAD had always been a simple g-code assist package, but that's all changes. The V23 software is much much more powerful then I though BobCAD would ever become. The Art package they offer I find to be very powerful. It's a system that can be used in almost any shop or at least in mine. The support forum they have is a great place to learn more about the software. www.bobcadsupport.com .
Before I upgrade I always get a live demo of the software with one of their technical advisers. This way I know what the software can do and the person I am asking key questions to knows the answers. It's really neat they do it over the internet and I watch them running the software on my screen. Much better than the fax feature sheet I got in the past.
I would say the salesman are very aggressive in selling their software.
With a little negotiations you can get a really good package price. I got one of the show packages as an upgrade with all the add ons. For the $1495, I've more than made my money back...
