Mach3 xylotex 4.02 with 425oz motors.

FUDS mach3 XYLOTEX SETTINGS

Ver4.02

Double check motor hookup!!!

adjust for 29 volts power, buffer of 1volt. (30v max)
1.84 Volts vref setting, 2.3 amps.
(at 92% buffer to allow spikes, 2.0v max, 2.5amp max)
100ohm resistor for 24v fan.

set motors to mm's. (imperial was used to build the ark)

425 motors rated at 8000 pulses per second, 200 steps per revolution.

calculate your steps per 1mm.

(1/8 step=1600 steps per rev, example 5.08 pitch, 1600/5.08=314.96 steps per 1mm)

divide 8000 by the pulses per 1mm gives you the mm per second. (25.4mm)

multiply by 60 to get your mm per min.(1524mm per min)

multiply this figure by 0.06 to get your acceleration.

the motor refused to go any faster than this figure before trouble set in. (back of a few pulses for good measure)
max out the baud rate to 115200.
(the circut can handle more than this i've heard)
if youve got a big cpu set hertz to 45,000.
(seems to make it a little bit smoother)
the resonance seemed to be under control, slower acceleration would remedy otherwise, but then it would run like a big 'rubber band'.

allow for these feed rates in your cad cam programs, dont try and go faster.

my email wont receive any cnczone responses so this just a monologue.
i hope this helps you all.

Backing off 10% made it bulletproof (900mm min)
Xylotex is a good beginners kit, careful to wire the motors and you can do no wrong.

DUH, the example was hypothetical.
I'm getting 900mm/min 0.200" acme direct drive with 425's.

XYLOTEX is a good all round beginner package, so for all those who miswire them please dont bag 'em out to badly. It's your fault, not theirs.

Many Xylotex buyers, assuming that bigger must be better, mistakenly opt for the 425 oz motors. These motors require 90V for best performance and small Xylotex power supplies cannot BEGIN to tap their potential.

In MOST cases, The 60V 269 oz motors should give much better performance and faster rapids.

CR.

Um, isnt 90v dc like an arc welder? Does seem a bit extreme.
I'll take your word for it though, xylotex is entry level, not the bees knees.
When i upgrade to gecko i'll use the xylo for a 2axis head attachment on a 3 axis benchtop (large drillmill modified). Gecko for x,y,z nema 34.
