    Parallel, Series, or Unipolar hookup?

I think I may he having resonance problems. I'm trying to fix it electronically, rather than mechanically, don't have an easy way to make dampers. I'm going to try the different hookup schemes, but I thought I'd ask for other's opinions too. I have the 4 axis board and a Taig mill.

I can hook up the steppers parallel, series, or unipolar. Here are the specs for each scheme:

    parallel, 258 oz-in, 2.3Vdc/Phase, 4.2A
    series, 258 oz-in, 4.7Vdc/Phase, 2.1A
    unipolar, 181 oz-in, 3.3Vdc/Phase, 3.0A

My power supply is 26Vdc, vRef is at 3.53 on the board. Hooked up parallel right now, having problems loosing steps at lower speeds. Higher speeds are usually better than lower, it runs smoother.

I'll probably try series and unipolar to see what happens, but I'm also wondering what others might think about what differences I might find.

Edit: I guess I can only try parallel and series bipolar, not unipolar as the Xylotex board isn't a unipolar driver.

What do you have your step size set too? Usually the beef would be the need for higher rapids, not lower speed step loss. You also have the option of bipolar half coil. http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.p...le=Performance and http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.p...le=8wiremotors

Yeah, I know. It's set to 1/8 step.

You might be loosing steps at lower speeds because in parallel your setup is less than 2.5A. Going to series will limit your rapids, but will give you full torque at lower speeds. You might also try quarter step and half step. IMHO the 3977 and eighth step isn't as powerfull as quarter or half.

Thanks, I might try that. I've bought some bigger drives, so it might not matter anyway.
