| A friend of mine has a 25.6vdc 8a power supply that he will send me if it will work with my system. The PS is made up of a transformer, 4 diodes 2 capacitors and 1 resistor, he says it is unregulated. It’s a heavyweight at 19.5 lbs, but that doesn’t make any difference. Since it is unregulated does that mean that I cannot use it for my Xylotex application? Or could it be regulated easily?? I seem to recall that this Xylotex configuration calls for a 7a PS, is 8a really too high of an amperage?? I am using three Controllers XS-3525/8S-1 from Xylotex and the stepper motors are 116 oz/in also from Xylotex, it was a package deal. Regards Hager |

| mr chips - if i understand current limiting correctly, the xylotex board will not draw more current than you set it for - there is some equation to figure the current a given stepper might use in different winding configurations. there is a difference depending on if you do parallel or serial bipolar - i think. most people would tell you to goto the yahoo.com xylotex base, where the xylotex guy answers all the questions.

| Here is Jeff's response from the Xylotex forum. Hi, The drives will only use what they need from the power supply. 8 amps will work, and will certainly be more than sufficient. An unregualted 25.6V supply should be no problem, as the absolute max is 35VDC, and the normal "running" max is 30VDC. I do suggest/recommend/admonish :-) using a cooling fan blowing on the heatsink though, when running at 25VDC and 2.5A/phase. Jeff |
