help me please!

Hi every body, Im having problems getting my motors running. Ok i am using a 660 mgh pent 2 with mach 2 and 3 , trying both, running win xp. ive got the vref for the 3 axis set at 3.35 or close too. i only have a analog volt meter.
the motors lock up when hooked up so theres no problem there, the red light is on so no prob,s there, the fan works, the motors get warm, i have the software installed and set to what every one says here and the mach forum says. but no movement, the y motor did vibrate a bit but thats as far as i get with it.The only problem i might have is the parallel port cord, if its wires all through or not, how can you tell? I also tryed it on my pent4 3 gig computer and got the same.so if some one can help that would be great, getting a little frustrated. thanks. graham

To test port cable just set your multi meter to read resistance and check each pin at both ends.

Have a feeling there is more to your problem and will give it more thought.

Are you using a breakout board; if yes which one it may be faulty?

Buy me a Beer?

Make sure that each pin is assigned to port1 for the motors. They are set to port0 by default.

Thanks for replying every one. I tryed pulling out the port cable that attaches to the driver board, the one xylotex supplyed and it fell apart so guess i have to go and get another. I do not have a break out board, just the power supply and driver board xylotex sells. I have all the ports assigned to port one and what ever the pins and such are suposed to be assigned to but still nothing, The y axis is vibrating a bit and the motors get warm but no movment. im sure it a soft ware problem or mabe the port cable, going to get a new one today and see. any more ideas then go ahead and shoot them my way, thank you every body. Graham

If the problem is not the parallel cable, you more than likely have something set wrong in Mach3, or you've wired something wrong.

Have you run the Mach3 driver test? drivertest.exe in the Mach3 folder.

Yes sir i sure did check the drivers and have a nice streight line like the video. so im sure that aint it, but i dont know if it would be that i dont have enough ram, 512 megs on the pent 4 . I might have to send for a new pararel cord that attaches to the boar as no one here sell that sized one. dont know if i can fix this one, dam that sucks.Feels like this thing will never happen.well ill keep on trying, thanks ger and every one. graham

Can you post a screenshot of your ports and pins motor page?

Now i might feel like a total idot here, how can you tell the diff from a parallel cable and a serial, I went and bought a cable asking the sales person for a parallel cable , bought it came home and see it says serial, now all my cablea are the same, so how do i know if i even have a parallel cable, the pict on xylotex web site has the same cable as mine but i go and look at a site that sells cables and theres look totaly different, so does xylotex have the wrong pict on there site? lol this is getting funny, could only happen to me lol.
