Is it possible to drive two steppers one amp each on one axis of the Xylotex? Also, I'm not sure how to handle unipolar or bipolar. Just stay with one or the other for the Xylotex and the steppers? Thanks, Trent |

| You might be able to run the two motors, but I'd buy an additional axis for $40 and run them that way. You can use any combination of unipolar and bipolar motors, it doesn't matter to the Xylotex. Gerry

| sanghera. i asked this same question, and some variations on it not long ago, and got lots of advice. most people dont recomend running 2 motors on the same driver. the problems are with possible binding if resonance cor other interfearance auses the motors to become out of sync. we are lucky to have a xylotec option for $40. this makes it reasonable to just add an extra card. a similar question is about 2 motors driving the same leadscrew or axis. lots of people say not to out of hand - claim binding will be a problem. then there is all those machines that use 2 motors to power their gantry - like budcan's amazing machines in the gallery, and the shopbot... i think if you have a properly designed stepper system, you should be able to gang the motors on an axis. just not on a driver. one exception would be if you were using a unipolar driver - you could jsut wire an extra set of power transistors to the logic level outputs from the step-pulse circuitry.
