I purchased a 3 axis kit with the 269oz motors and power supply. I have assembled everything into the case. All connections were double checked and seemed fine. I set the vref voltage to 3.35v and the supply voltage to 27v. I added a second fan to the case. One drawing air into the case and on to the heatsinks. The second draws air out of the case. I used 2 pair shielded cables for the motors. I soldered all the connections and heatshinked all connections. I double checked my db25 cable had all pins wired through. I loaded up the demo Mach 3 on to my Dell laptop running Win 2k. The motors lock when power is applied but won't jog at all. The driver diagnostic seemed to run fine and didn't report any errors. I tried adjusting the motor velocity under motor tuning. Still nothing. I am at a loss as to what to do next.... Any suggestions?

Spook, A guy I have been chatting with lately thought the same as you, he had holding torque and thought all wiring was correct. What he found out was that he wired the parallel port as male, not female. I would suggest check it all again, looking at everything. Do not assume anything. In Mach3, did you set the outputs? Under the diagnostics in Mach, are the X/Y/Z outputs red, if so, change the state under the motor config, so that they go out. I had issues like you when i started out. you just have to keep at it, ask questions and trace everything out. Try using 1 unit only, this will reduce the chance of blowing all the units up at once /M

| Do you have the prot address correct? Most likely have some wrong settings in Mach3

The port address is now correct. Windows reported the address to be 378. I tried the steptest.exe and out of desperation, tried all port addresses. On the 3BC setting the motors started moving. I switched the address in the config to 3BC. Still no motion under Mach 3. So at least it is now not a wiring problem. On the diagnostics screen I now have 7 green boxes on the raw inputs section. I am not sure which outputs you are referring to. Neil

Ok the videos helped a lot but the problem was not covered there. The problem was in the motor outputs section. the ports for the step and dir were set to 0 instead of 2. The port is in reference to the computer's parallel port #. In my case I put the 378 address for port 1 and the 3bc address for port 2 and enabled both. So even though windows thinks there is only 1 parallel port at 378, there is clearly some sort of port at 3BC and that one works. Now I am on to motor tuning....
