Steptest.exe

I just got a board, and am following the instructions to test it out.

When I try to run Steptest.exe, nothing happens (the motor does not turn). It is running in XP in a DOS window.

How can I find the correct port?
Do I have to reboot in DOS?

I don't think it will work in XP in a dos window. You need to boot staight into dos. You can get a DOS bootdisk at bootdisk.com It may not see your hard drive if it's formatted NTFS, though.

You can download Mach2/3 and use that to test you're motors using XP.

Yep, had to run in DOS, but when I booted in DOS, I could not get to C: drive, so I put steptest.exe on a floppy and loaded it from the A: drive. Steptest defaulted to 2500 & the motor just vibrated, but when I pushed the "-" key to reduce the speed, the 2500 keep increasing until the motor started turning.

Now to try to figure how to use Mach 2 enough to get a test from it.

Mach2's ports and pins are already set up to run an xylotex board, all you have to do is set the motor tuning(it would actually go without it, but to match with your screws it wont)

maybe just luck for me but i was running it in xp service pack2 i think it was. i know it was xp. as for the port i think if you go to the control panel and then click on system and device manager. would finish it for you but this computer doesn't have a parallel port on it but if u look aroud in the device manager you should be able to find it. I hope this gets u closer to mission accomplished
