You shouldnt have to remove the IC, but yes you can use the others.

Hi,
While testing one of the axis I got the "pop" and "burnt" smell. I assume there is no chance that driver might still work.
The board seems to be shorted at the moment, but it still has three other drivers.
If I cut the pins on the burnt driver and remove it should the rest of the board function?
I don't know much about electronics so bear with me.

Thanks for the reply. You mention that it shouldn't be necessary to remove the IC, but the board does seem to be shorted and causes the power supply to shut off.
Is there an easier way to remove the short? Should the board work by just removing the IC?

I will say I am little concerned you have more than just a pop ic since its knocking your psu off.
I have had ic go bad on me but never caused the psu not to work.
The bad ic maybe causing another problem so go ahead and remove it.

I recently fried a axis. Noticed that the ic was getting very hot and decided to remove it to see if board would power up. That worked for me.

Resurrecting this thread because the Z drive on my 3-axis Xylotex died last night. Pins A and A- are shorted to Vbb and Gnd. I believe just the Z axis IC is shot and shorting pins internally. Does anyone know of someone who will repair these boards, or a source for the IC and schematic? I have the skills to repair it myself but I need to find the parts.
Would prefer to keep this board since I made the case and cables custom for it. Thanks for any help.
An earlier post looked like an offer to repair the OPs drive. I'd guess he knows how to do it.

Did you repair the board? I have a few New IC's in stock most the time.
I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands if you no longer use it. lol
I have had to replace many things on this board. Repairing the Buffer IC is by far the funniest. NOT. However when they go bad you generally don't have to replace it and can just use the other legs as 1 or 2 gates are not used.
