    X3 Bench designs

    Hi to all,

I just acquired a Sieg X3 which I will be converting to CNC. I want to get a decent bench set up from the start, incorporating splash/chip guards and pan for flood cooling. I have been thinking of different ideas to include, like a solid underbench draw for tooling etc, easily removable polycarbonate shields, and a counter-sprung easy to raise front door panel. But it would be great to see what others have achieved, so I was hoping for some pictures. I haven't seen a thread covering this specifically - please direct me if there is one.

Also, regarding bolting the mill down. As I am thinking of fabricating the bench from steel sections, I don't want to distort the mill base as it is bolted to the steel frame (if it is a little out of whack). The legs of the bench will have leveling feet. I'm proposing to make the mount bolts ajustable. Has anyone specifically done this in their mount?

    TIA and Cheers
    Bob

Thanks gozos and Donald for the info. I've started fabrication now and will post what I end up with.

    What about this one...

DIY CNC Mill Stand | Tormach | We provide personal small CNC machines, CNC tooling, and many more CNC items

A search on "enclosure" on these forums will also show some pretty impressive setups, and may give you more ideas.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the links Andrew.

I'm well into fabrication of the stand now. It's made from welded steel angle and channel, and includes flood pan and polycarb. sides and front door. I'll post a pic or two when finished. Cheers and thanks.
