Need Source for X3 magic smoke??!!??!! Or just a new controller?

Lost my magic smoke tonight. If I had the garage door close I could have caught it, but it got away.

Hooked up the VFD control form the G540 to the spindle and was able to start and stop, but it kept saying "PWM bumped to minimum setting" and was going very slow. In the process of getting frustrated I cut the wires to the potentiometer because it WAS still controlling the speed, BUT I forgot to tape the three blue wires from P1, P2, P3... and they eventually DID arc. P1+P3 tapped each other and looked like an arc weld.

Little smoke from the board but I couldn't for the life of me tell where. The ONLY damage i can even kind of see is on C1 & C27 I think (capacitors). I tried turning the motor on again and it gave a 1/4 turn and nothing since.

    HELP!

I know I have read many times about the KBLC boards, but aside from reading the wiring and some great reviews I really don't know much about them. Nor can I find any information on how to control the KBLC board with mach3.

Any thoughts? Advice? Trouble shooting? Anyone know how to hook a KBLC up to Mach3?

Mosfets look fine, only the pins on the bottom of the P1,P2,P3 and C1&C27 looked slightly damaged, but NOTHING looks BAD and I'm lost.

I haven't tried this - and I'm not sure whether the speed control on the X2 is a KBIC (which is similar to the KBLC) or something else - but have you looked at the following page:

    G540 VFD

There are some KBIC troubleshooting notes that you can find with a google search, including schematics. For example, see http://www.hossmachine.info/Gerling%...viceManual.pdf

There used to be a guy on the Internet (Gerling Laboratories) who repaired those motor speed controllers (he originated the document linked to above), but it looks like he is no longer doing that: http://www.repaircontrol.com/

    well thank you.

I thought I had read that one, buy I think it was different. I think not removing P2 was my problem with the g540 not being able to control the speed originally.

so... if I figure or what happened I should be set.

my buddy says he knows a guy that can likely figure out the control board, but it will be hard since sieg doesn't publish specs :-/

If you need another controller like the factory one, I have one that I never used. I bought the controls and motor out of an X3 for another project but the motor arrived damaged and the project was scraped. I would sell it for less that Grizzly wants for sure.

Part number on the sticker is XMT-1160. If that matches and you want it, shoot me a PM.

I'll call tomorrow and check the pn, since the only thing I have found is from little machine shop, which is scary. they have it listed under X2 (not under x3) @ $200 but they are local so I would get it next day.

does yours look like this? I know there are at least three different versions

I guess tonight I'll pull the board and see if I can get that guy to take a look at it this week.

unfortunately I think it is likely that I will be PMing you next week for your board.

    Thank You.

No problem at all. Just let me know if I can help. I would be glad to see someone get some use from this one.. I've had it on the shelf for over a year now collecting dust in the static bag.

if I had known how cheap I could get a KBIC-125 I would have already had a spare!!

just ordered one off the bay new in box for $88 shipped ups ground AND he is throwing in the required 3/4hp resister and optional fuse kit (neither of which are included from KB @$150).

I regret doing this at this time since I can't get before and after speed and torque readings, but allegedly it comes factory set to increase the speed/torque 50%. should be nice with my belt drive thats on its way (5Kish top speed)
