first thing I would check is to see if the pre-load on the spindle is set right
Does the spindle have play vertically?
I have the same mill and I upgraded the bearings and it is running great

I have this SIEG-SX3 SMALL MILL and it has a pretty big play in the spindle, see videos:

Anyone knows what could be wrong and if there is a way to fix it?

I did tighten the nut under the belt pulley, that solved the play but its still vobbles when it runs.
When you uppgraded the bearings, what kind of bearings did you use and did you have to diassemble the hole head or is there a simpler way?
I will have to check on the exact bearing numbers, but the install was not that painful
For removal it can be done without removing the head, just remove the quill handle and spring assembly, remove the upper timing pulley, loosen the quill lock and it should slide out the bottom, make sure you remove the Z dro scale before removing the spindle cartridge ( I would remove it completely, as some SX3 users have reported issues with this that will cause the motor controller to short out )
The upper bearing MUST be a sliding interference fit for you to be able to properly set the pre-load, there is a lot of info on this over in the benchtop forums section just search spindle bearing upgrade for the SX3 and you should be able to find a lot more info, are you planning on converting this to cnc?
Here is a link to where I got my PN# for the bearings Runout of tools on SX3 and X3 owners.
And here is one to my build which desperately needs to be updated

Did you use taper bearings or regular?
Yes I plan to convert it to CNC and automatic tool change.
Thanks for your great help!
