    Sieg C4 Lathe CNC COnversion

    G'day All,

Just a quick one that I'm undecided on and was hoping for some inspiration.

I'm about to CNC the Seig C4 lathe, with the quick plan being...

Ballscrew for the Z axis (obvious)

But it's the X axis Im a little unsure of right now. Can anyone suggest why a stepper / belt / pulley arrangemenet would be better than a straight through drive (with coupler same as the Z axis) would be better.

I can see space considerations being a major factor, but I have plenty of room out the front of the machine, even after I build an enclosure, so I guess my question is, would the only benefit of using a pulley system to drive the X axis be one of space efficiency?

Has anyone else CNC'd one of these? Would love to get some more ideas on the X axis, and exactly how the ballscrew could be installed?

    Thanks,

Hello, I came across your post and wondered if you ever finished your conversion project?

I also have a Sieg SC4 and was wondering what would be involved in carry out this process - your post
if the only one I have seen relating specifically to this machine?

    Best wishes
