    HOME MADE EXPANDER

    HELLO EVERYBODY , i need to make a couple of expanders to hold on the ID for machining a second op. on a cnc milling machine, i will use aluminum,can anyone please showme the best and fastest way to make an expander completly in a milling machine,thank you very much,any tips and suggestions are appreciated.

    go to yur local muffler shop and give the guy 20 bucks to swedge your pipes

    I think he's talking about a expanding mandrel. All the ones I've seen look like they'd require a slitting saw.

    Here is an idea. depending on your material, you could wrap rubber, or sandpaper maybe.

    You could mill a post that is just under the ID of the part you want to hold.
    Then drill and tap (or threadmill) the center of the post for a tapered pipe thread.
    Then cut (endmill, slitting saw or if desperate hack saw) several slots.
    Thread in a pipe plug loosely, install part over the post, and tighten the pipe plug. The tapered threads will cause the post to expand, holding the part it in place.
