+ - .2 mm at 100m? I wonder if that accounts for the curvature of the earth?

that would be 0.8mm over 100m , wonder how they deal with thermal expansion and such.

Love to see a video of it cutting. Must look like a huge mechanical spider crawling over the piece.

    Probably does.

Typically when you set up long span machinery you pick a reference frame (usually, but not always near the center of the machine) that is set with precision levels. The rest of the machine is then set relative to that reference frame using either optics or precision laser measurement systems for flatness and straightness. Optics are good down to a few thousandths of an inch and with lasers we can get down to 1 micron resolution or better.

The only thing missing on it is a wire cutter, like in the first video for the car and the Styrofoam would make cutting the ruff part much quicker

Notice the avoidance of excessive mass?

If nothing else this highlights that you don't need mass to build a machine. Of course there is no indication of machining steel here.

What do you think how they extend cable for encoder if they use servo systems? I actually think if one want to build 2m X 6m plasma/router using servo and r&p system.
