Assembly without messing up table top

I'm wondering what methods you would use to assemble something such as a square frame on your nice flat assembly table without messing up the table's surface with glue ?

Cover it with plastic sheet, or newspaper.

If you have a wood table, a good coat of wax on it will make it easy to clean up any glue spills.

I have a sheet of white melamine on my workbench. When I am done, I let the glue dry and am able to come back the next day with a chisel or putty knife and scrape it right off without damaging the top. If you don't want to wait, a damp cloth when the glue is still wet wipes off very easy from the melamine as well.

I have also seen workbenches with a replacable 1/4" hardboard sheet on them. When it get to marred up, simply replace it. I wasn't real fond of this method, but it may work for others.

Thanks for the advice, I'd forgotten about Melamine - I use a Melamine table for my soldering and it is resistant to just about everything.
