Anyone have the dragon saved off? I'd like to try and use it on a project.
Hi there,
I found almost exactly the same thing to be true myself... When I first built my router (also 8020 BTW.. you just can't beat it)... I was that caught up in getting the machine right I didn't focus on content creation until afterwards... I had a lot of work experience in 2D and 3D design for multi-media, so I assumed I'd have no problem at all with content.. I did soon realise that adaptation of 'basic' 2D and 3D design techniques could quite easily produce results suited to CNC... even with FREE software.. I thought it might be an idea to share this information.. and thats how cnc4free.org began...
Even if you're not that keen on the graphics side of things I'd encourage you to stick at it.. The benefits over and above cost-saving is the level of control and flexibility you can gain for CNC work. You don't need to become an 'expert' designer. You need only focus on techniques you would apply to make CNC content you need
Many thanks for your appeciative posts... All the best
Danny

Hi There,
Just a note on this...
I distribute these files publicly for a 30 day period for PERSONAL use.. thats what it says on the downloads page, that's what I mean... and that's what downloaders agree to.... Should there be ANY re-distribution of FREE content from cnc4free.org then I will stop providing public access to the files.. period.. thats it...
This months updates at http://cnc4free.org will be online at the end of this week

Danny, I don't think I understand the limitations you place on either your eBook or your free models. All of my projects are personal, I make things for friends and families as gifts, I don't charge anything. It's a hobby not a business. However your rules are your rules and I'll honor them and find another way.
Thanks,
Jay
Hi There,
re: files downloads
It's not a question of rules.. but of reserving resources and bandwidth for those who provide support towards maintaining the existence of the site. The cnc4free archive now has 600+ individual files.. amounting to somewhere in the region of 2 gigabytes... unrestricted access would rapidly consume bandwidth. However, the main purpose of restricting access to site sponsors is actually distribution of the information in the ebook. The idea being that having actually bought the ebook, people might get round to reading it and gaining the skills to make their own 2D and 3D content...
To be absolutely honest, developing the ebook was about developing skills I needed in my personal work. I wanted to be able to take on any 3,4 or 5 task without spending horrific amounts of money on dedicated software. I'm more than happy I can do this now... which leads to a forthcoming development with respect to the cnc4free.org ebook. In May.. hopefully around the middle of the month, I will be putting the ebook online for FREE... The content amounts to over 3 years research into the best FREE CNC resources and the means to exploit them to maximum effect. I don't know of any other CNC website that produces this kind of resource.. I couldn't find it when I looked.. so I created it...
The Final version of the cnc4free.org ebook provides genuine, tried and tested means to acheive CNC design, content creation, code generation and other related tasks for the vast majority of 3, 4 and 5 axis work. I'd say 99.9% of it but there's always some bright spark who will pop up and go.. what about.... etc.. so I'm remaining conservative and saying the vast majority..... All that's required is a little time and willingness to develop basic Graphics, 2D, and 3D design skills... much less than the 15 years I spent learning 3D design and the 3 years I dedicated to the ebook content...
By reason of the work that went into it, the ebook WILL NEVER be public domain or for redistribution... again I think the reasons for this will be perfectly understandable to anyone who has devoted this kind of time and energy to creating original content.
cnc4free.org will remain online.. funded by support donations and other means.. there will be further developments re: the website in the forthcoming months...
hope this helps
Danny
Edit: BTW If you need the dragon file I'll put it back in the public area for this month... I prefer to put up new content.. but just this once I'll make an exception.

To anyone interested really...
April / May updates are now online at http://cnc4free.org Had hoped to get these online by end of last week but have been too busy with other work..
Some examples below..
Jay C
I've included a reworked version of the requested Dragon file in this month's downloads... It benefits from recent gmax specific adaptations to the general methods promoted for relief modelling.... I've put renders of the old and new versions below.. 638 is the OLD model you requested. 733 is the improved methods version. The result is a lot more detail based on the same source material.. Hope it's useful for your project. Would be interested in seeing the finished cut....
