I would charge $200.00 like it is (paint extra).
2hours x $100.00 = $200.00
If you think thats not a fair price, maybe call around your area get a few estimates?
Thats a nice sign, good work.
.
Its my first sign....
This is aprox. 4' x 2 1/2' x 1 1/2" MDF took a couple of hours to cut.
What would you charge for this?
Thanks for your replies....
(any constructive idea's would help too!)

Also you need to figure, it's not just how long it took to cut the MDF.
You programmed the toolpath, supplied material (I think), machine time, tool wear etc...
.
$200 sounds sounds like a good deal for the beach club business. $100/hr sounds real good too. But as Switcher says, it doesn't account for all your time. So you really aren't making $100.
I'm a hobbiest, and I'd be happy to cut that for $200.
PS, That's an awesome sign.
Great job.
What the hell? Is that detailed palm trees above the lettering? And is the lettering raised above the surface? And is that like a perfect oval? And why are you wearing pink flip flops and a skirt?
Sign looks great!
I just ran this through my cost program that I made in Microsoft Excel (Will share with anyone who wants it).
I figure it at this (PLEASE tell me if I'm under/over charging anywhere) but Im still new to all this too.
A4 Sheets Sandpaper x 2 = €3.83
.25 Lt MDF Primer = €6.47
.25 Lt Various Paints = €6.47
.25 Lt Exterior Yacht Varnish = €10.90
Oakley Dust Cloths x 2 @ €1.84 = €3.68
M6x25mm Rawlbolts for Installation x 2 = €3.04
1/10th Roll Masking Tape = €0.70c
20mm Endmill 2hrs @ €1.73p/hr = €3.47 (Based on 15hrs useable life)
6mm Endmill 1hr @ €1.26p/hr = €1.26 (Based on 15hrs useable life)

18mm MDF 10^2ft @ €0.73p/ft^2 = €7.30
5hrs Labour @ €8.50p/hr = €42.50
€30 Delivery Charge = €30
Installation 1hr @ €8.50p/hr = €8.50
TOTAL = €141.32 incl VAT ( $190.50 )
Edit: Looking at it again, I'd probably charge for 1/2 Lt MDF Primer and Paints. My tins of Varnish are bigger so 1/4Lt would be enough. You didn't really give enough information on bits used and accurate times to be very accurate, so I just estimated off the top of my head.

I wouldn't sell that sign for less than $200.00 profit.
I would add the cost of every toolbit that touched the sign, as If buying a new toolbit to do the job regardless If I could use that bit on a later project, the cost of tooling adds up in time.
Paint & install would cost more for materials/labor.
Look at it like this, can the buyer get that same type of sign in your area? If so, whats the going rate?
You don't want to over charge, & you can't afford to short change yourself (fine line)!
Also will that customer be a repeat buyer (maybe), you might cut them a better deal in exchange for more work.
.
On this side of Tampa bay something like that would be close to $350 for sign only.
Please have a look at this similar question for me. I think after looking at a previous job I did, that I may have used the wrong values for my estimate above. Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to send out a fax drawing to area sign shops with the specs for the sign. Now if ya get any pricing back then I,d go about $5 more than the lowest price. You don,t want to start off by being the cheapest guy in town. Also figure what materials you would use the most and buy in bulk(if ya got the space). And remember the way you present yourself to a customer wether on the phone or in person makes a big dofference if you get the job or not. Just try to sound like ya know what your talking about.
