    Cool Long cutters CNC Router

    G'Day all,
I am battling to find reasonably priced long strait CNC cutters.
What I need is about 10 to 14mm diameter but it must be able to cut 106mm and be about 125 long so I can hold it.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome,
It is for machining MDF moulds that are a little deep.

I mostly machine rigid urethane foam here in the model shop, but I buy my cutters from Grand Tool Supply Co., Teterboro, NJ 800-922-0512
    www.grandtool.com

They sell some extra long cutters, and when they are on sale, prices are tremendous! I use a Cat30 holder and got some 25mm dia x 200 long for less than $20 each. That was some time ago, but there normal prices are very good. The cutters are German made and last forever. I couldn't find the cutter you need in a quick look in a sales catalog I had. The closest I found was a 12.7 dia, 127 long, 75 length of cut. That was $18.19 in the sales catalog. It is a 8%cobalt 4 flute end mill, center cutting, part number 1905337.

You might take a look on the web site and see if you can find any better. If you could use a 15.88 dia, they definitely have the length you need. Could you have a local shop grind down the shank? There part number 1905355 is 15.88 shank, 156 overall length, 102 cutter length, $28.84.

Now these cutters are for steel so your feeds will be slower. They might have some 2 flute cutters for aluminum that will be more agressive.

    Good Luck!

    cheap cutters

I was at a machiniest supply last week and they carry resharpened cutters mainly with 0.5" shanks in all sorts of configurations at $2 each. OK so the ones I got are marked 0.488" . How well would these be for wood? Also is there a source that discusses the uses of various styles of cutters, upcut etc?
I got Cnczone to start a forum on wood lathes and hope that you will con tribute. At this stage I haven't found anyone that is doing wood so anything you can add will be appreciated.
