    What Speeds, feeds and tools

    Hi

We will soon get a Techno 4896 router running columbo auto change with vacuum table. Enroute3 software.

We will be machining audio loudspeaker parts from 18mmm thick marine grade plywood.

I need some suggestions on spindle speeds and feedrates that would be a good starting point.

Also we would like to cut right through the workpeice. I suspect that to cut right through 18 mm material we will have to make two passes around the workpiece. Am I right?

Who makes the best router bits? the ones that stay sharp the longest and cut fastest???

Sorry for all the questions! Thanks in advance for you help

1 pass, full depth, 400ipm, 15,000 rpm. The faster you cut, and the lower the rpm, the longer your bits will last.

    Thanks for that ger21.

I guess the Viper Plus tool is good for my application, the news that 1 pass is no problem is a real bonus for me as i was thinking that this might not be possible with the baltic birch plywood we use.

    Thanks again

While not Baltic Birch, I've cut 1-1/4" in 1 pass with a viper.

We have the baltic birch shipped from Russia because it has low resonance levels.
We order only twice a year to get the wood at it's optimum for or requirements.
    It's quite tough stuff!

There is a really nice explanation and formulae for figuring this out at www.precisebits.com
