    Exclamation :Interior door replacement

I have a older house with a couple of 79"(13) interior doors . would like to replace with 80". To do this on the ones that i don't have the needed clearance on (4 of them )is it safe to trim some of the header . Or support the ceiling and replace header. Got a good deal on pre-hung for 39.99 don't want to pass up.

There's a reason those headers are there, and on an older home they might be undersize anyway. It would be better to trim the bottom of the door, we do this all the time.

If they are a hollow core doors, you'll cut the solid piece out of the bottom. You can easily reinstall this by cutting out some of the cardboard webbing inside the door, then 'peel' the masonite of the solid wood with a chisel, and simply glue it back in with a couple clamps. I don't like trimming the top, because then I have to screw around with the top of the jamb, and a narrower top rail would look funny. Barely noticeable on the bottom, though.

+1 what Louie says. Trim the bottom of the door. We make and sell doors at the shop I work at, and pre-built doors are always trimmed at the bottom.
