How many axes on your machine?
[axes = plural for axis]
Hi everyone,
my name is Tom I am new kid on the block. I have made a CNC router 26x54 that came out terrific. I did want to use it for duplicating my rifle stocks but after seeing what it takes to produce a 3-D I gave up on this idea. So now I just got finished building a router duplicator 26 x 54 my problem is I have no idea how to start setting up my blank and my master for reproducing my stocks. It's driving me nuts I have tried to or three days to figure out where to start but as of yet I'm ready to give up so please if anyone has any idea of how this is done I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you.bigpa

Hi Zool,
Thanks for your replay, 1 axis= routher
thanks tom
You CNC router only has one axis??
Zool,
Im sorry i thought you wear asking about the router duplicator. The CNC machine I built this three axis, I used double screws and slave the a axis.
Thanks Tom
Built two identical indexers and mount them side-by-side.
Over one indexer there will be a probe [so to speak], over the other will be a router.
The probe and the indexer are connected by a counter-weighted [to offset the weight of the router] pantograph []Error set 1:1.

Check out this website. CentraCraft - DIY Cnc Projects - Cnc Cutting Service - Duplication Wood Duplication Services. It explains everything you need to know about duplication. Although this is a commercial duplication machine, the process and techniques are the same for a small machine. You use a stylus to "trace" the original object, which creates the copies. You can use many different sizes of cutters for roughing out, and adding small details. Remember, Duplication machines are not sanding machines! There will be carving lines left on the copies from the actual carving of the wood. There are 2 different ways to duplicate. 2d flat objects and 3d fuul round objects. flat work is mounted using clamps on the corners of the piece. The 3d duplication requires that you can rotate the piece 360 degrees on spindles, or duplicate 1/2 of the object at a time. Then flip the piece and duplicate the other side.
Might search old videos of gun production during WW2 seem's like the garand film showed stock's being made . I thought of two identcial wood lathes with the head stock's conected with a timing belt1-1 and a liner shaft centered between them and a nother shaft at right angel with the router over the blank stock and a probe on the other end under the master the weight of the router would keep the probe in contact with the under side of the pattern and have a screw to move the shaft the length of the part set the tool offset on the quil od of the tailstock's, a gap under the tool would work for roughing and 0.0-.020" for finish have probe with same radius as tool. try searching for a thred on making gutar bodys Kevin
